750km to the east of New Zealand’s South Island lie the Chatham Islands, home to New Zealand’s most remote communities.  Around 600 people live on two of the 11 islands that make up ‘The Chathams’. Incomes are largely reliant on farming, fishing, conservation and tourism.

The purpose of this website is to support the Chatham Islands community and to celebrate the unique natural and cultural heritage of the islands. Here you can find issues of the community newspaper The Chatham Islander, information on the Chatham Island Enterprise Trust and associated companies, and an occasional blog about aspects of the unique natural history of the Chatham Islands.
